Transitioning in Niagara
The My Name Fund has been established to assist individuals who are transitioning from their gender assigned at birth to their authentic gender, to make the legal change from their birth name to their chosen name.
We understand that the cost of an official name change can be a serious obstacle to individuals in transition.
The fund is supported by the gender and sexual-diverse community of Niagara, including, but not limited to, members of Transgender Niagara, TransParent Canada, pflag Niagara and OUTniagara, which includes (CAW LGBT Committee, and the Imperial Court). If you wish to make a donation to help support this fund, please contact us directly
Pflag Niagara has a designated amount held within its bank account. The fund can be added to by a vote of our business members.
Fund awards will be provided by money order or bank draft, made out directly to the “Minister of Finance”
Applications are reviewed by pflag Niagara.
Awards will be granted in the order in which they are submitted, subject to the availability of funds.
The current cost to make an Ontario legal name change is $137. Under especially difficult circumstances, the funding committee, at its discretion, may also consider reimbursement for some contributory expenses, subject to the submission of appropriate receipts
